I'm sure you've all heard by now that I've been sidelines with tendonitis in my left ankle. It's mild, but impacts 3 tendons, so it's actually a guessing game which part of my ankle will hurt on any given run. I can run for about 2 miles, and was able to complete a 5K in 41 minutes and change (whoo! speed demon!), but that's about the limit of my running right now. Needless to say, the half was out of the question, and the 10K may have been feasible, but well, ok, it wasn't feasible without some serious post-race ankle issues. So, I had my first DNS at Zooma Cape Cod 2014.

Summer Running
So I kind of had a drive by post the other day, so I figured
I’d come back and will in some details.
First off, if you are considering registering for Zooma CapeCod, do it NOW! They’re filling up (first time in the 3 years I’ve run it that
I’ve seen it get this full), so hurry before you’re closed out. CCAMB1 will still get you 10% off!

Quiet Summer...
Sorry, it's been a quiet summer for me so far! Here's my quick update:
I still am feeling the effects of my winter running sabbatical. Running is so hard again! The humidity isn't helping, I know! but still, it's sooooo hard....
But, I'm up and moving. I'm trying to make my Monday run a 4.5 mile loop instead of my 3.3ish one. Plus, I'm officially at the leading edge of my Zooma Half Marathon training. (Hurry and sign up if you haven't yet, it's 95% filled already! Use CCAMB1 to get 10% off!) Which means that I actually have to get up on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and log some actual miles. I did it the last 2 weekends, 3 makes it a trend, I'll let you know on Monday!
Plus, it's time for the annual Tour De Common in Rindge, NH. I'm hoping for a repeat of my 3rd place in my age group! Pete, my oldest is too old for the kid's fun run, so both the boys are doing the very hilly (300 ft climb!) 5K. My sister is being *awesome* and running her first 5K too! You know how I was talking about how it's hard to tell who's motivating who? Well, add my sister to that list.
Ok, on that note, I'm going to sign off. More later on my love/hate of my fitbit and other fun summer stuff.

Energy Bits Review
A few weeks ago, I responded to a tweet from Energy Bits. They asked a trivia question about one of their athletes, Jimmy Kirkpatrick the striker for the Canadian Field Hockey team. I was the lucky one who got the answer right. I was expecting a free sample of Bits and maybe a logo tee shirt. Instead, I got a signed jersey from Jimmy (which my 6 year old immediately adopted) and 2 samples of Bits. Super Awesome!

Zooma Ambassador Again! and Who's Motivating Who?
It's been a while, like 4 months. First off, let's start with the good stuff, for the 2nd year in a row, I'm a ZOOMA Cape Cod Ambassador!
Discount code will be available by mid month. They're trying to get the ambassadors more involved this year. The first is a Photo A Day contest on Facebook and Instragram. Check out #ZOOMAPhotoADay. And keep looking for more ZOOMA related info from me between now and September 27th!

Race Season Is Over
I know I haven't published my BAA Half Race Recap yet. Short version: It's uphill form Mile 7, I trained for flat Zooma, iPhone died at mile 12.5 along with my motivation. I finished, but it wasn't pretty. I'll tell the funny stories later.
Three or so weeks ago, Michelle mentioned she's doing the Frosty Half on Dec 8th. It's a new race, includes a pancake breakfast and "unique race swag". The course is a little hillier than what I'm used to (see comment above re: Mile 7-13 at BAA) but it's rolling hills and the race is 2 days before my birthday. Awesome, right?
I needed to check the family calendar before I signed up, so I figured I'd wait until my next long run was done too. So 2 weeks ago, I head out to do 7 miles. It was painful. It was 2 weeks after the BAA, I wasn't fueled, it just wasn't my day. Didn't sign up yet. Last week, I went out for 10 miles. My hip had been bugging me. I've had on again off again IT band issues. They were on again. I made it just about 2 miles before I called my mom in tears, while I walked home the last mile. It took 3 days to work it out. Haven't signed up yet.
So today, I set the alarm for 6 am and I was planning on doing 10 miles. I don't want to. Not signing up.
It's not that I don't want to ever run again, I do. I still run my 3 quiet miles on Monday along the Charles, and my 3 chatty miles on Wednesday with Sarah. I even signed up for bootcamp on Tuesdays and really want to try the Trampoline Aerobics class on Fridays. But I just don't want to run long right now.

I'm going to start with the punch line for this race:
I PR'd!!!!!!!!!
I came in under 2:30!!!!!!!!!!
The random chafing and the blister on my left foot aren't dulling my smile at all!
I PR'd!!!!!!!!!
I came in under 2:30!!!!!!!!!!
I know the clock says 2:29:15, but actual net time was 2:28:51 |
